"AT-AT DAY AFTERNOON" Created by Patrick Boivin

AT-AT day afternoon from Patrick Boivin on Vimeo.

This is a entertaining really short film. This flick was made by Patrick Boivin, you can see more of  his work at http://vimeo.com/user1463264. He never had a dog or a AT-AT Walker when he was a child and with that inspiration he was able to create this little film. Oh, Jabba the hutt makes a cameo and it's a great one if you ask me! Enjoy

Aerial by Brian Luong available today at Teefury

I thought this was a cool looking design and something I may have to pick up for myself. Available at http://www.teefury.com This is designed by Brian Luong and you can view his art here http://artofbrianluong.carbonmade.com/ Remember this is available for one day only.

The Vader Project

I'm no Star Wars geek and will never understand why people go gaga over it, but Darth Vader has been a universally cool and badass character. The Vader Project is a great collection of 100 stylized Darth Vader helmets created from various artists. It has toured the whole and will come to an end where each will be auctioned off in Philadelphia.

This is what was said from the website:
"To view the complete catalog online go to: http://issuu.com/freemansauction/docs/1375

Curated and produced by Dov Kelemer and Sarah Jo Marks of DKE Toys (www.dketoys.com),
The Vader Project features 100 of the best underground artists and designers working today.  “From a simple idea in 2005 to a record-setting exhibition in 2009, it’s time for our child to venture forth into the world,” Kelemer and Marks said. “We are pleased to have partnered with Freeman’s to make these fine pieces of art available to the public for the first time.”
For this unique project, each artist customized a 1:1 scale authentic prop replica of the actual Darth Vader helmet featured in the STAR WARS™ films. Notable artists involved with the project include:Shag, Peter Kuper, Jermaine Rogers, Gary Baseman, BXH, Tim Biskup, The Pizz, Dalek, Paul Frank, Ron English, Jeff Soto, Michelle  Valigura, Frank Kozik, Plasticgod, Simone Legno - Tokidoki, Bill McMullen,  Secret Base, Joe Ledbetter, Alex Pardee, Suckadelic, Cameron Tiede, Mister  Cartoon, Marc Ecko, and Amanda Visell.
"
This particular is my personal favorite with the use of the army helmet and the skull to show the destruction that Darth Vader brings. It's overall a cool and eery piece of art.

Space Can design for Branded Baron Apparel

This design was released as a Branded Baron shirt for the summer release. I personally loved the concept of creating the universe with a spray can. The surreal design is creative and different than what is normally seen on some tees. Designs have to be fresh and new and I feel this design took it there. It's available for guys AND girl shirts.

The print came out really well and it's a cool shirt to rock.

New Golden State Warriors Logo....Eh

It seems that the design trend is go retro. Everybody wants to reminiscence or take it back to what it once was. Well the Utah Jazz reverted back to their old logo that was in '96 and now Golden State wants a retro feel. They want to show homage to the old uniforms from the '60's. When I was growing up in the 90's I never liked any of the Warriors jerseys. The blue and gold looked too plain and I thought the California state on the jersey looked terrible. I thought it was a sock, until one time I realized it was California. It made sense after that, because why would they have sock when they were the warriors?

This what Warriors President Robert Rowell had to say about the idea for the new logo:

"The throwback uniforms we've worn as part of the NBA's Hardwood Classics initiative in recent years have been extremely popular with our fans, and we set out to design a new look that was clean and traditional in that same spirit. We are grateful to the NBA and adidas for providing us with a magnitude of creative freedom, along with invaluable expertise, during this process."

Now I'm not upset that they went retro, but what bothers me is that it doesn't look like it's a logo for a basketball team. That looks a generic Bay Area logo with the team name around it. It's simple, which is fine, but it doesn't mean it is creative or good. Also, there wasn't a better font than Copperplate? That's a generic font that I've seen other companies use for ads and logos.

The current logo was cool, but clean. It had a mascot of a warrior with a mask holding a lightning bolt showing they're ready for war. The basketball in the background had a slight finesse, but it wasn't boring. It just seems frustrating that companies pay big bucks for crappy designs. The designer probably took down all the correct information, but just put together a bunch of ideas together and the Warriors probably wanted simpler.

I'm not a Golden State Warriors fan at all, but when I was growing up I always had fun coming up and drawing my versions of all the NBA team logos. I feel my 7yr old self had a better logo for the Warriors then they do now. I'm disappointed since I like sports logos.

Random Sketch-Music

Here's a sketch of a design that I wanted to paint, but haven't had the time to and still trying to take the risk of ruining the image. It may not be the hottest, but I like the idea. I'm thinking about making a digital piece from this sketch. It's a work in progress right now. Thoughts?

The Simpsonzu by Nina Matsumoto

Comic book artist and illustrator, Nina Matsumoto drew this cool warped version of the Simpsons. On the homepage of deviantart.com was this picture and it definitely caught my eye, especially since I am a Simpsons  fan. What are your thoughts on her take of the characters?

Short Film: Mortal Kombat

Ok, this may have nothing to do with design, but I think this is an interesting short film. It's very dark and it's an interesting to see the makeup that was used for this. Supposedly this short is a pitch by the director to Warner Bros. Studios to show what the reboot of this popular franchise would be. It's definitely an interesting take and a totally different direction from the video games. Who knows if this will be used, but enjoy.

T-shirt up for voting on Design By Humans

I have finally submitted a design on Design By Humans, so if you like it and want to see it printed. Vote for it. You'll have to sign up to vote, but it's free. You can vote and then check out the many shirts available on the site was well.
To go directly to my art for voting click here : http://www.designbyhumans.com/vote/detail/74557?page=1

I definitely wanted to create a sexy woman illustration and combine it with watercolor. I like the surreal effect by adding the drips. I do feel the green would stand out so much on a silver shirt.

What are your thoughts?
