Love Love By Julien Berthier

This ship isn't sinking. It's "Love, Love" by Julien Berthier, a boat that's been modified to appear as though it's capsizing. The ship was originally a 6.5 meter yacht that was sliced in half and outfitted with a new keel which keeps it upright at all times. Apparently it's actually seaworthy, and he has toured it around Europe. Watch the video of it in action after more. Berthier writes:
"Love-love is the permanent and mobile image of a wrecked ship that has become a functional and safe leisure object. "

BOTTLE OPENER RINGS

I found this from my fellow artist friend Iquan of the Artoholiks/Mix206. This is such a cool find. $8 for 2 bottle opener rings. I don't wear rings, but this seems practical even if I did.

Buy it here: http://www.fredflare.com/customer/product.php?productid=6117&cat=252

Check out the resources at Media Militia

I know I've posted their free splatter, but definitely check out all the freebies that they have to offer. It's great that they have high quality stuff for designers to check out. They have various textures, brushes, Photoshop actions, vectors, 3d renders, etc. I recommend looking at it, because it may be worth it when looking for that something extra in a design.

May the force of Typography be with You

I found this here Good design is good design and it doesn't hurt that it's pop culture. This is really creative.

David Dutton's "Influencia"

I thought this was a cool narrative about an alcoholic painter trying to mimic a mural he saw on the street.

John Maeda: Looking for Superman

At the 99% Conference, Rhode Island School of Design president John Maeda defines the key qualities of standout innovators - a willingness to struggle, to make mistakes, to live with ambiguity - and tackles the creative’s biggest challenge: How to lead other creatives. Perhaps confronting the status quo, killing bureaucracy, and leading change can be its own art form…

Freelance Freedom: Inappropriate Language

This edition of this graphic design comic strip is sad and funny, but true. I have see job listings for "desktop publishing" or for a "desktop publisher". Talking about old school. I know that graphic design was once called that, but it hasn't been called that for years. It kind of worries me for anyone who gets that job and still has to work in Adobe Illustrator 6. Imagining it, makes me think that it must be brutal. I know the phrase, "Only a bad carpenter blames his tools," but knowing that your company is up to speed with the 21st century can be very satisfying.

Inspiring Drink Labels

This article is very interesting. Companies know that they're offering the consumer a brand and a well design label is very important to convey their message. The history behind the companies influence why some labels are the way they are. They are definitely inspiring for designers and worth looking at, before you drinking. Click here to view the entire article.

Here are only a sample of what is discussed:

Elo

Absinthe
Bourbon

Mexican Cerveza (beer)

Marvel to release Tron Influenced covers

Marvel will be releasing special covers that pay homage to Tron. These covers are extremely cool and they look like the superheroes belong in the movie. I definitely like the Spider-man, Ghost Rider, and Captain America the best, but all the covers are very well done.

RAPPING Wrapping Paper

I came across this site and think it's a very cool idea. The idea to have song lyrics, specifically hip hop lyrics on wrapping paper, gives the gift wraps something special and unique. This will be great, since the holiday season is right around the corner. Si Hill, of "Rapping Paper" came up with this idea in 2006, because he wanted to wrap gifts with wrapping paper that wasn't terrible. The current songs that are available are Eminem's "My Name is", Run DMC's "It's like that" and "It's tricky", and the Sugarhill Gang's "Rappers Delight". They also have their logo repeated on two different color paper as well. If you're in the States, I would order now, since this company is out of the U.K. You can see it here http://rappingpaper.co.uk/  The price is £3.95 which comes out to be a $6.38 cents, not including shipping. It's still pretty cool and it makes the person receiving the gift stare at the paper, before the paper gets rip to shreds.

Zombified Sculptures by Jessica Harrison

These are certainly creepy sculptures, but to see these old fashioned sculptures turned to a zombie version it makes for a win. British artist Jessica Harrison's sculptures are absolutely eery and reminds me as if they should appear as ghosts in a horror movie. I never knew zombies can be so lady like!

Inspiration : Mathiole

It's always great to see traditional media mixed with digital media and Mathiole's designs never disappoint. You can see many of his designs printed through Threadless and Designbyhumans t-shirts, as well as regular print media. All of designs use his signature watercolor style that actually was done before the computer is involved. I'm a fan of watercolor and I try to implement it into my designs when necessary, because it's so free.  Here is one recent design that Mathiole was commissioned to do for a bank. Check out the step by step process. Click to enlarge
